By early afternoon, tornadoes across the Upper Midwest were touching down and pulling farmland dirt high into the atmosphere. The jet stream pushed the dust ahead over the greater Michindoh area, filtering the sunlight through a dusty tan hue. People took notice of the phenomenon, but continued with their daily lives, unaware of what was happening below the horizon and coming closer by the minute. Whatever seemingly mundane routine each person initiated on this Palm Sunday, each would be woven together by one event, a night that would go into the annals as a dividing moment in local history: life before April 11, 1965, and after.
